Forest Craft Guild Arts and Crafts German Silver Pin, Grand Rapids Michigan

Item: 1406

This antique vintage pin so richly illustrates the fundamental value of art expressed through hand craft, that so defines the American Arts & Crafts movement. Attributed to Forest Craft Guild, whose jewelry was rarely signed, this German silver pin has the hand fashioned, hammered finish, and acid etching so typical of the Grand Rapids studio. The pin, inspired by lush nature, is designed as two flowers with flowing stems, set with a greenish blue turquoise cabochon in the center of one flower, and yellow enamel in the center of the second flower. Verdigris "antique green" enamel further accents the pin. Secured by a C clasp.

Forest Mann founded the Guild in 1905 to produce affordable hand crafted jewelry and decorative objects in the Arts & Crafts style. Most pieces were crafted in German silver, copper and brass, some set with semi precious stones. The vast majority of their work is unsigned, even pieces made by Forest Mann himself. FCG jewelry dates from 1905 to 1918.
