Panetta Crystal Snake Ring in Original Box with Care Card

Item: 1423

This stunning snake ring by renowned jewelry designer Panetta, is beautifully maintained and comes in its original box with original romance card. The ring is gold plated sterling (vermeil) and hand set with glittering Austrian crystals. The eyes are emerald green glass cabs. The coiled snake wraps around the finger for a fabulous statement! Snake jewelry gained popularity in the Victorian period due to Queen Victoria's emerald set entwined snake engagement ring given to her by Prince Albert. The snake is a Teutonic symbol of eternal love.

Beneditto Panetta immigrated to the US from Naples Italy in 1901. Originally, he worked for Trifari as a designer and chief model maker. It was here that he perfected his technique of using platinum and gold backing in costume jewelry. Panetta opened his own shop in 1945 which continued production until closing in 1995. Panetta jewelry was produced in small runs, and was expensive at the time due to his high quality materials, workmanship, and design. Panetta jewelry remains quite collectible and sought after.
