William Hobe was commissioned by Florence Ziegfeld in the mid 1920s to create costumes and jewelry for the stage for the Ziegfeld Follies. In 1927, he founded Hobe et Cie and began crafting high quality costume jewelry for the American market. Hobe jewelry through the 1950s was characterized by the use of gold plated silver and featured high quality crystals, paste and semi precious stones. The pieces were so well made that when found today they are often in exceptional condition.
